White Noise not working after iPhone 2.2 software update

Postby aid8m » Fri Nov 21, 2008 7:54 pm

I installed the new iPhone 2.2 software update last night, and I now cannot get any sound out of the White Noise app. It opens fine, but there is no noise, even when I turn up the speaker and internal volume all the way.

I have been using the White Noise app to for a few months. I have installed all updates to the app.

Am I the only one having this problem?

Thanks.

White Noise not working after iPhone 2.2 software update

Postby nriv00 » Sat Nov 22, 2008 12:46 am

I'm having the same, identical problem and I have no idea what to do. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, rebooted iphone several times but the problem persists. Someone please help. Update: The application works normal only with headphones on, without them there is no sound that can be detected coming out from iphone. Update 2: Silly me, I had the external sound switch in silent mode hence why no output sound detected. Switched to normal and...voila! Sorry for all the confusion. I just hope this experience may be useful to someone else.

Slightly different behavior since 2.2 update

Postby sheckylovejoy » Sat Nov 22, 2008 2:42 am

First off -- I LOVES ME SOME WHITE NOISE. Thanks for that.

I used to take my 3G iPhone, kill the ringer with the external switch, start White Noise, and place it in my iHome clock/radio/iPod-player and then lock the iPhone. Everything worked just the way I wanted: the sound came out the clock-radio and there were no screen-light or phone rings to wake me up. Ah bliss...

But now, if I kill the ringer, then it kills the White Noise sound coming into the iPod port of the clock radio. Also, if I lock the iPhone (or let autolock go) it also kills the sound. So the only way to get it to work now is to keep the ringer on and the phone unlocked

I may have to downgrade to 2.1 just b/c of this. Ack!

After updating my iPod Touch to 2.2 White Noise stops when the iPod goes to sleep or the button to lock it is pressed. When iPod wakes up or is unlocked White Noise continues.

I've deleted the program from my device, downloaded it again, and synced it to no avail.

I want my White Noise back. Please fix it.

The latest OS 2.2 update has changed the default behavior of the locking feature such that background sounds are disabled. The workaround is to set "Auto-Lock" to "Never". This will be fixed in the next update which will be available shortly.

Where do I find Auto-Lock Never setting and what will that do to the rest of the iPod functions? White Noise is the only app that stops playing when the iPod is locked or asleep. All music, the alarms, etc still work as always.

I'm unwilling to disable a feature without knowing the overall effect.

When will the update be available?

The Auto-Lock is under Settings / General / Auto-Lock. Auto lock locks the screen after a set number of minutes. Setting to never means the screen does not lock unless you manually press the lock button. The overall effect is the screen does not turn off.

It's not ideal but it's the only work around unless you want to roll back to OS 2.1. White Noise is not the only App Store application effected by Apple's upgrade. I am referring to applications simular to White Noise that you download via the App Store and not the default Apple applications that are permitted to run in the background.

Apple usually takes around 5-7 days to review and accept updates to applications. Hopefully it won't take longer than that. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,
Todd

Does not work

Postby Zenmastr » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:59 pm

The above mentioned work around does not work. The problem is that the sounds generated do not come over the iPhones external speakers. If you are to hook up your earbuds the sounds work. Whitenoise needs an update from it's creator in order for it to function correctly with the latest update. Please let all the whitenoise fans know when the fix is available. Hurry! I have recently given up using a fan to sleep for my wife. I found whitenoise to be a great replacment.

Try turning the ringer switch on your iPhone from silent to ON. That should enable the speaker.

Again, we have fixed the problem and already uploaded it to iTunes. It is being reviewed by Apple and will be available in the next few days.
