White Noise Reboots Tour

BlackBerry smartphone applications available on App World including White Noise.

App list

My list of apps is kinda long (37 or so). Is there an easy way to copy or send those?

I do not see a way to copy. More interested in the apps that are usually running in the background if that shortens the list.

How do I know which apps are running in the background or not?

Hello All,

Let's try something. I have a hunch I know what's causing the issue. Todd and waldocreed, do you have a weather app of any sort on your phone? My wife had Weatherbug on her phone before it crashed. We haven't reloaded it yet and her phone has yet to reboot. I run Weather Channel on mine. I removed it and mine stopped rebooting. Brill, can you remove you weather app and try running White Noise? I have a hunch that these apps are the conflict. Unfortunately with The Weather Channel, I don't know of a way to stop it from running in the background.

Sincerely,

Jason

An experiment

Postby waldocreed » Mon Nov 02, 2009 1:45 pm

First, a reply to Jason: I have no weather apps.

Now, my experiment:

When I went to bed last night I rebooted in safe mode and ran White Noise. I set it on crickets and fell asleep waiting for something to happen. I woke up in the morning to the recurring alarm on my BB (native type of alarm that can be set from clock or calendar). Without looking, I hit the space bar to silence it (which leaves the "snooze/dismiss" dialog open) and noticed that the crickets were still playing on White Noise. After just a few minutes, the phone spontaneously rebooted.

One thing that I usually have running in the background is Quick Pull Lite, which reboots my phone daily at 2am, which didn't happen in safe mode.

Todd: I will email you some event log details rather than trying to post it.

Update

Postby toddm » Mon Nov 02, 2009 8:51 pm

I downloaded 3 weather apps last night and ran them all on while playing white noise. I have yet to see any of the reported issues but have discovered a couple interesting things:

1. One time white noise stopped playing sounds. I went into the log and saw that memory cleaner had just run. This could certainly mess with white noise as it allocates a chunk of memory to optimize audio streaming. Please let me know if you are running memory cleaner.

2. Discovered a bug that stops audio after the 4 hour mark. This is being addressed in an update.

Wish I had more news to report but we are releasing a v3.0 update that fixes the #2 bug and adds a lot of event logging and better error reporting. I seriously doubt it will address any of the problems you guys are reporting but please continue to send me any logs you have and theories on why its happening.

In an effort to allow customers to test their phone hardware before purchasing White Noise we are releasing a free lite version. I'll honor any refund requests until White Noise Lite gets published. Just e-mail me proof of purchase to toddm at this website.

Thanks,
Todd

Weather Apps

Postby Brill » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:49 pm

Fyi, I turned off BeWeather and started White Noise. It rebooted after 7 minutes. Sorry.

I was also trying out a Storm II for a few days, and White Noise ran well on that device, even with BeWeather running.

White Noise Lite (free) was recently released. Can you download it and let me know if you have the same issues?

Hello All,

In case you weren't aware, a firmware update was released for Verizon customers today.

Also, I have since reloaded my weather app and purchased a memory reclaiming app for my phone. The app showed me how much of my RAM was available before and after reclaiming it. It seems to me the that the Tour is not handling memory very efficiently as my memory app has been able to reclaim more than half of my RAM every time it runs. I don't know if the firmware update addressed this problem or not, but ever since I installed that memory app, I have not had a problem with the White Noise apps restarting my phone and my phone has definitely ran better.

I do want to thank Todd for all his help with the issue.

Jason--Thanks for the information regarding the firmware upgrade. Really glad to hear you found a solution to the problem. I had always suspected either firmware or memory usage but sounds like it could be a mix of both?

A new version of White Noise (3.0) was recently submitted for approval to App World. It includes many performance optimizations, advanced configurations, better error and event logging, and best of all remembers all your settings.

Thanks for all your patience and help!
