Not sure if this is a App Issue or Froyo Alarm Clock

Postby ddavi021 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 1:58 pm

In the past I used to like to use White Noise to run in the background and have my Stock Clock turned on and WN would run all night in the BG no problems.

Since 2.2 when I run the clock WN will run until the Phone goes into screen lock mode. It basically turn the program off cause when I unlock the phone and pull up the app it shows the timer has been reset even though the icon still shows in the notificaton as running in the background still.

My question, is this a problem with WN or a problem with Stock Clock. When I run WN and leave the app open it runs like it should, but I can't use that at night cause it's too bright even if I completely dim the brigtness of the phone and I don't like to turn it off cause I use the clock on the phone at night. I even had the put the phone on it's home screen with no clock on and the program would still shut off after certain amount of time.

I have a Nexus One.

Thanks in advance.

I am investigating this. Do you know approximately how long it takes for White Noise to restart when the screen is locked? You've only had this problem with android 2.2?

Yeah I never had this issue with 2.1.

I can't remember how long ago, but I'm pretty sure it was after an update I ran WN and it cut off. I turned it back on later that night and it worked the rest of the night. Now it just cuts off everytime. One night I was still up after it turned off. I wanna say it cut off after 15 mins or so. The first time before the update to 3.0 I thought it was the timer cause it defaults with 15 mins so I changed it to a couple of hours and sure enough it would turn off anyways. It only would turn back on if I open the app up.

I was wondering if maybe it had to do with storing the app on the SD card so one day I moved it back to the phone but still same outcome. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling straight to my phone to see if the problem would still arise.

Once again there's no issue running the app directly, seems some issues with it in the background. When the app turned off the notification would still show and when I open from the notification the app would start running again.

Another thing for the first time ever since I've had this program back in April or so, it did several force closes last night, but the sound was still running in the background. I thought that was weird.

BTW I am running stock android, no Roots.

Hi,

I just wanted to give you an update.

I have tried everything to have this stay on. I believe this is what happening.

Whenever the phone goes into sleep mode on it own the program seems to turn off. I just turned the program on and the phone went into sleep mode. When it did, the app automatically turned off. I guess I never notice it doing so fast cause my phone would be plugged in with the stock clock running. After a certain amount of time the stock clock will go into sleep mode, lock the phone and that's when the app would turn off.

It seems sporadic though cause I tried to manipulate it again and it didn't do it again. I'm not sure. But whatever is making the progam shut off has to do with the phone going to sleep mode.

Hello,

I think I may have tracked down my issues, I believe White Noise was conflicting with Blink LED notification. It would probably explain why the issue was sporadic. I'm not 100% sure but when I sent a text message, it notified me and White Noise turned off and didn't come back on. I uninstalled Blink and reinstalled and seems to eliminated the issues. Seems to be running correctly, but will keep you informed.

Is Blink LED an app that plays any kinds of sounds? I'm wondering if there a conflict with that. Thanks for keeping me updated and please let me know if you discover something else.

Would you be willing to send me a device or event log?

Sure I'd be willing if you tell me how. I have the SDK installed my computer but not too savy on how it works.

Blink is just a notificator to change the colors of the LED trackball for the Nexus One. I don't think it's conflicting as I first thought. The sound are actually coming from my phone settings. I thought it was conflicting but it's not. Gmail notificator does make a sound, but I have the sound set to off. The only sound notification I get is from my SMS. But I don't get those at night when I sleep. Just gmail

Here's something stranged that happened last night. As always I used White Noise in the back ground and as always when I used stock Clock, it turned off when the phone went in sleep mode. Also I got the force close notice again when I hit the home button, but dont get the FC when I hit the back key to back out of the app and have it run in the back ground. Now once again, the FC is sporadic. I tried to replicate it earlier and it didn't do it.

I went into my system's setting and force close the app (white noise) in the application setting under what what running. I went back into White noise and this time it ran all night like it should.

Weird. It didn't conflict with my gmail notificator and didn't conflict with my Blink app. So it's definitely something sporadic going on.

Let me know what I need to do send the info to you please. I'd like to help anyway I can as I know Dev put a lot of hard time and work in their apps and I really really love this app.

Please email me a ddavi021@gmail.com and let me know how I can help you.

Thanks for you interaction.

Okay,

I think I may have tracked down the issues but don't what issue would cause it.

White noise now works through the night. But I can only make sure it works probably in the background in sleep mode if I force stop the app everytime I turn it off in the application settings.

So I hope this help isolates the issue. If I don't do a force stop everytime I close the program out, it will not work properly if I reopen it.

It crashed on me last night so I sent you the log. I hope it has what you need. The crash happened around 00:42.

But when I turned it back on, it worked with no issues till I woke up. Just so happened it crashed last night.

I have this same issue running it in the background with gentle alarm. though I can not pinpoint it to a particular time as it seems to shut off at some point in the middle of the night. I've had the problem since I went to 2.2 both on stock and cyanogen mod builds.. I disabled screen lock and set my phone to stay on all night so i can see the clock, but the problem still occurs.. Would love to see this fixed...
