Connecting actual mameroom unit

Questions regarding building your own arcade system to run MAME and other emulators.

Connecting actual mameroom unit

Postby Tinydane » Tue Dec 09, 2008 6:13 pm

I'm pretty much set on buying the parts for the UAII cabinet and prewired control unit as well. Saddly I"m not very handy at building all the parts nor do I own all the tools.

one question I had was what is actually needed to hook up the prewired control panel to the pc to have all the mappings and stuff done. Do you have to do any wiring or config on your own or is it pretty much plug and play into the USB ports?

Thanks.

Just yesterday I got my arcade up and running. I'm not going to lie, it has bugs to work out but I think I can get there. I purchased the IPAC keyboard encoder through www.ultimarc.com as a suggestion from a guy on this forum. If you don't purchase the wires you will need to cut, strip, and crimp yourself. It's actually not that bad and you can 'customize' the wire lenght depending upon where you want to mount your IPAC. Anyway, my 1 player controls are working great, but when my family and I play a two player game I can not get the 2 player controls to function. I've tried everything I can think of but it's just not happening for me right now. They say in the instructions that it's a 'plug n play' device but I had to screw around with the programming. It's very straight forward so don't read too much into the word 'programming'. Have you purchased a keyboard encoder yet?

I actually called and talked to scott at mameroom about this. From what I understand now because I'm buying the prewired control unit from them i'm good to go. All I'll end up with is 3 USB wires that need to go to my pc. The prewired unit has the control card it needs already and all the buttons/switches are wired in. So this truly sounds plug and play.

I'm not very handy per se so as my first project I really didnt want to take on wiring/electric work so I went with the prewired. Probably cost me an extra 200 bucks in the end but its worth in my time savings of what I'd have to think would easily be a 4-5 hr headache for me.

As far as your issue..from what I've read have you double checked the pin outs for your board and made sure you have the 2player side wired to the right posts? Also once wired have you gone into the actual config in each game (hit the tab key and choose the inputs option) and ensured you have keys mapped for player 2?

Hey, thanks for the reply! Let me know how that pre-wired board works, I'll bet it is pretty dialed in. As far as my problem, I didn't have one. These games are set up to work the same way they did in the arcades so I overlooked the fact that when playing a game, like Pac Man for example, two players would 'share' the single joystick. It works this way with our home arcades as well...I didn't even think about that. The 2 player controls are strictly for two player, simultaneous play. Good luck with your system!

I bought my prewired 2 player ccontrol panel from mameroom several months ago. It turned out very nice. The only issue I had was it came with two usb and one ps2 connector. My PC was a newer dell and did not have a ps2 connector. I was able to resolve the issue by buying a ps2 PCI card. I tried a ps2/usb adapter but that did not work.

While I haven't put the tv/pc/cp into the cabinet yet I have had a chance to get the whole system working together. For configuration/testing purposes I still have the cp/pc/tv all on a table ..makes it easier to work with and I'm still trying to work out some display issues.

I will say though that I'm real happy with the UAII control panel I got from mameroom. With WinIpac I can (if needed) tweak any/all of the key assignments. It arrived, I plugged in the USB cables and bam she was up and running..can't get much easier than that.

I bought the 2 player classic kit from Mameroom, and I have the plans to build the UA2. I bought all the sticks and buttons from a great Happs distributor on Ebay. My question is, Mameroom said to use an Ipac2 for the controller, how do you hook up all the buttons on this thing then, and do you hook up the dedicated 4 way in parallel with the 1player stick? Is there some sort of wiring diagram that shows which buttons the flippers get hooked to?
